If you want your weather forecast in Kelvin, Google News apparently has the option
I've started having a better time on Mastodon/Fediverse by treating this like early Twitter: I try to follow back everyone in order to fill my timeline with stuff. I aggressively follow anyone when I see a boost of something they wrote that I like. I am going to start doing the ol' Follow Friday thing to help other people find people. I follow a lot of people I know *NOTHING* about but it's finally lively enough to keep me engaged.
My favorite Crater Lake shot from earlier this summer.
A few recent pictures from our yard.
hey, enterprising/inspired instance owners! i wrote up a short doc on all of the things i customized for cybre.space and what files they were in! take a look:
hey, instance ops! i put together a guide on adding S3 support to your instances along with a few troubleshooting tips! check it out!
Should you use mastodon for sensitive info? Hell no! At least, not unless you're running your own instance, and you know what you're doing.
But you also shouldn't use facebook or twitter for sensitive info! You don't control those platforms either.
We need a nice icon for the Mastodon Federation to use on our conference site, where can we find one?
INTRO TO FEDERATION:
1. "mastodon" is a piece of software that runs on a server. There's a lot of servers that run it & u can follow ppl on other servers.
2. When u follow someone from another server, your server receives their toots.
3. The federated TL is all public toots that the server receives, ie all of the toots from everyone that ppl on your server follow.
4. ERGO: if u want to see more toots in the fed TL, follow + get other ppl on your server to follow ppl from other servers!
PSA: If you are in the web view of a remote instance of some user or toot, you cannot directly reply/boost/fav.
But you can copypaste the URL into your local Mastodon server's "Search" field, then it allows you to interact!
Wasn't obvious to me, so maybe boost this if it helped you. :)
I want to recommend Mastodon instances to people who suffer from online abuse. Does anyone know which instances have friendly codes of conduct / terms of service?
look i know you all are new around here, but round these parts we have certain RULES so's to keep the peace, and one of those RULES is that SHITPOSTS are POOTS and i dont want to hear otherwise, got it punk
